1999 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-001WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1999D-1DER-001WS is a Denver 1999 Lincoln cent reverse with wavy steps. TrailDies builds the code from the year and mint (1999D), the denomination (1, a cent), DER for a design extension on its reverse, file number 001 and WS, its tag for trails that cross the Memorial's stairs and leave them looking bent. On this die the stairs deviate moderately beneath columns 5 through 8, and the fluting of columns 2 and 3 runs down into the stylobate with the same moderate strength. Everything heads 190°, a few degrees west of due south. The middle-die-state coin TrailDies describes has no obverse markers; its reverse shows scratching near the E, P and U of the motto and a group of three die dots just past the T in CENT. Most specialists put trails down to polishing of the die with a rotary buff; a smaller group links them to the die moving against the hub.
