1997 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-029

Description

1997-D WDDR-029 is a doubled die reverse on the 1997-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. On the seventh column, right of the statue, a bar reaches from the hand down to the leg's lower part. On the obverse, just NE of the date's first 9 there is a gouge (dot), and a short gouge oriented east-west sits inside the right edge of the opening of the second 9. Left of the 7 in the middle of the date there are two areas of die damage. On the reverse, a short concentric scratch oriented east-west lies over the F of OF and the first A of AMERICA, and a similar concentric scratch lies over the ED of UNITED. A gouge sits over the M in AMERICA, above its upper right arm. One gouge (dot) is above the left cornice and another is in bay 1. A gouge appears on the right step of the Memorial, and a faded gouge lies SE of the T in CENT. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. Its Coppercoins number is 1997D-1DR-002.
