1997 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-028

Description

1997-D WDDR-028 is a doubled die reverse on the 1997-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. On the seventh column, right of the statue, a bar runs down from the upper hand to the leg's lower part. On obverse Stage A, a die chip sits between the two 9s of the date, centered where their upper parts come closest, and another chip is above the 7. Over the second T in TRUST, on its left side, a vertical scratch rises to the rim. On obverse Stage B, the chips between the 9s and over the 7 can still be seen, while the scratch over the T in TRUST is barely visible. On reverse Stage A, a vertical scratch sits at the rim right of the second A in AMERICA, and a die chip lies left of the T in CENT, about a third of the way down from its top. Another vertical scratch rises to the rim from above the left side of the I in UNITED, and a chip touches column 5 on its left side, level with the statue's hand. On reverse Stage B every Stage A marker remains, though the one at the I in UNITED is weaker. Stage B adds a chip touching the upper left of the Memorial base, a chip on the N in UNUM at its upper left corner, and a chip touching the T in UNITED at the center of its left side. Daniel Griffin submitted both Stage A and Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
