1996 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-043T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Three sets of trails run across the reverse of 1996P-1DER-043T. The first, at 350°, just west of north, is mostly on OF, the ES of STATES, the motto, ONE's NE, AMERICA's ER and the tops of the columns on the right. The second, at 270°, due west, marks the ET of CENT, ONE's NE again, the stylobate's left corner, the first S of STATES and the motto. The third, at 240°, west-southwest, shows on CENT's EN, the NE of ONE, the opening letters of the motto and that same first S. Code: 1996P cent (1), reverse design extension (DER), file 043, trails (T). On that middle-state coin, a gouge sits below the last T of TRUST and clash marks show in bay 4. Joe Koelling found it. Die polishing with a rotary buff is the explanation most specialists give; a smaller number point to the die moving against the hub.
