1996 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-035T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Light trails at the upper right corners of the letters in the motto are the only lines recorded on 1996P-1DER-035T. They run at 060°, east-northeast, up and to the right. The code: year 1996 with P for Philadelphia, a 1 for the denomination, DER for TrailDies' reverse design extension list, then 035 and T, the file and the trails type. The middle-die-state coin described has small die dots around both 9s of the date and a small gouge above the S of PLURIBUS. Michael Pope found it. The cause most often cited is polishing of the die with a rotary buff; some specialists cite movement of the die against the hub.
