1996 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-031T Trail Die Reverse

Description

1996P-1DER-031T is another 330° reverse found by Joe Koelling, with light to moderate trails on ATES in STATES, the inner letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM and MER in AMERICA, angled north-northwest, up and to the left. Its number follows the pattern of the others in this run: 1996P for the Philadelphia issue, the 1 of a cent, DER for the reverse design extension group, and 031T for file 031, trails. The late-state reverse TrailDies describes has a crack, with a die chip, linking the U and N of UNUM, and heavy scratching below the left end of the base line and above ONE. Those markers separate it from 1996P-1DER-030T. Specialists generally attribute trails to the die being polished with a rotary tool, while some attribute them to die-to-hub movement.
