1996 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-030T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Moderate trails on 1996P-1DER-030T leave STATES, the MER of AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, the scrollwork along the cornice and the tops of the central columns, all at 330°, north-northwest. TrailDies' code gives a 1996 P-mint one-cent piece, the DER category of reverse design extensions, and file 030 with T for trails. On the late-state coin described, a gouge lies below the first S of STATES and another near the rim left of the N in ONE; the obverse has nothing noted. Joe Koelling found the die. Such trails are normally explained by rotary polishing of the die, though some explain them by the die moving against the hub.
