1996 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-029T Trail Die Reverse

Description

1996P-1DER-029T shows trails from the lower right corners of the R in PLURIBUS and from NUM in UNUM, with more from the E of ONE, pointing at 140°, southeast, down and to the right. Part by part, the code is 1996 (year), P (Philadelphia), 1 (cent), DER (extension of the design, reverse), 029 (file) and T (trails). At the late die state TrailDies describes, two clusters of small gouges lie between IN and LIBERTY on the obverse, and the T of CENT has a gouge on each side. Louis Schaeffer found it. In the usual view, rotary polishing of the die leaves these lines; a minority holds that the die moving against the hub made them.
