1996 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-026T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Lines rise at 340°, north-northwest, from the letter tops of the motto, STATES and OF on 1996P-1DER-026T. It shares that direction with 1996P-1DER-025T, but the markers differ: on the late-middle-state coin TrailDies describes, a die dot sits below Lincoln's eye and a small gouge lies inside the left side of the O in ONE. The number tags a 1996 Philadelphia cent with TrailDies' DER heading, used for design extensions on the reverse, under file 026 with T for trails. Joshua Haynes found the die. Lines of this kind are usually credited to die polishing with a rotary tool, with die-to-hub movement as the less common explanation.
