1996-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001
Error
Description
Holding the primary DDO catalog position for the 1996-D Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDO-001 displays light spread on GOD WE TRUST, the front hair curls, date, and mintmark, with the strongest doubling concentrated on the last T of TRUST and the front hair curls of Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait. The involvement of the mintmark alongside the hub-doubled elements is diagnostically significant — while the D mintmark was punched separately in this era, its inclusion in the spread pattern indicates the doubling affected a broad swath of the lower and right obverse field. Die markers UVC-2453 and DMR-002 confirm the specific working die. The front hair curls provide the most reliable attribution checkpoint, as the sculpted detail of Lincoln's hair amplifies even light displacement into visible secondary contours. The 1996-D Lincoln Memorial Cent was struck at the Denver Mint in copper-plated zinc composition. Examine the last T of TRUST under 7x magnification for the strongest expression of spread, then verify secondary contours on the front hair curls where the fine detail makes light doubling most apparent.
