Description

1993P-1DER-057T has trails pointing opposite ways. Clear lines leave the NE of ONE at 090°, due east toward the right edge, while weaker ones come off the EN of CENT at the reciprocal bearing, 270°, due west. Its number: Philadelphia, 1993 (1993P); one cent (1); reverse design extension (DER); file 057; trails (T). TrailDies compares it with 1993P-1DER-054T, whose ONE trails are offset about 10 degrees differently. On the late-die-state coin every bay has vertical scratches, bay 3 has a gouge, and a scratch sits below the last A of AMERICA. Katelyn Schaeffer of Maryland found it. Plain trails like these are generally thought to come from polishing the die with a rotary tool; some argue instead for movement of the die against the hub.
