1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-056WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

On 1993P-1DER-056WS the light step deviation under columns 5 through 8 is stronger on the right half, not the left. The offset is 180°, due south. TrailDies' number combines the date and Philadelphia mint letter (1993P), the cent's 1, DER for the reverse design extension, file 056, and WS, its tag for trails that cross the Memorial's stairs and bend them. On the middle-die-state reverse there is a die dot on STATES' first S and a small gouge below the E of CENT; the obverse showed nothing. Louis Schaeffer of Maryland found the die. The standard account puts trails down to die polishing with a rotating buff, while a minority attributes them to die-to-hub movement.
