1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-055T Trail Die Reverse

Description

1993P-1DER-055T carries trails in two directions. Most of them run at 340°, north-northwest, up and to the left: strong to moderate on the left of the reverse and fading toward the right. A very strong line from the U of UNITED crosses the N; the I is clean, but TED shows trails and distortion, and every letter of STATES except the final S has some sign of them, as do EPU, the upper left of the Memorial and some letters of AMERICA. The N and E of ONE instead trail at 200°, south-southwest. In the code, P is Philadelphia, the lone 1 is the cent, DER flags the reverse as carrying a design extension, 055 is the file and T means trails. A plating bubble hid any obverse markers. Patrick Gaughan of Pennsylvania found it. Most attribute trails to polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some suspect movement of the die against the hub.
