Description

1993P-1DER-054T is a trail die, the T in its code, rather than a wavy-step one; the rest of the number gives the year and Philadelphia mint (1993P), the cent (1), a reverse design extension (DER) and file 054. The trails leave the top right corners of the letters N and E in ONE and point 080°, a little north of due east, toward the right side of the coin. TrailDies says they can be seen without magnification on its coin. That coin is in a late-early die state (stage A), with a clash in bay 4 and small gouges at the bottom of bays 10 and 11. Jimmy Ehrhart of Florida found the die. Rotary polishing of the die is the explanation most often given for trails; a smaller camp ties them to the die moving on the hub.
