1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-053WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Louis Schaeffer of Maryland found 1993P-1DER-053WS. Its moderate wavy steps cover only columns 5, 6 and 7, with the left side heavier, and they run at 180°, due south. Its code runs from the Philadelphia date (1993P) through the cent's 1 and DER, TrailDies' sign of a reverse design extension, to file 053 and the WS of wavy steps: trail lines crossing the Memorial's stairs so that each step looks bent. The middle-die-state coin has no obverse markers, but on the reverse a gouge sits over the left tip of the base and a pair of small gouges sits just right of CENT's T. These lines are generally credited to a rotary polishing tool working the die, though some prefer the explanation that the die moved against the hub.
