Description
Patrick Gaughan of Pennsylvania found 1993P-1DER-047WS, a 1993 Philadelphia reverse whose stairs bend moderately below its four central columns, 5 to 8. The bend runs at 180°, downward. Decoding the number: 1993P is year and mint, 1 the denomination (cent), DER TrailDies' reverse design extension, 047 the file, and the final WS the wavy-step category, trails that cross the steps and leave them uneven. The coin described is a late die state. Its obverse has a cluster of gouges between Lincoln's head and IN GOD, and on the reverse the U of UNITED is ringed by moderate flow lines. Trails are generally attributed to a rotary buff polishing the die, although some argue the die moved against the hub instead.
Die Markers
- Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – a group of die gouges between Lincoln’s hear and IN GOD.
- Reverse is LDS. Moderate flow lines around the U of UNITED.
