1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-045WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

The fluting is the strong point of 1993P-1DER-045WS: a strong line runs from column 1 into the stylobate, and column 3 sends several lines down. The stairs under columns 5 to 8 bend moderately, all at 180°, due south. In TrailDies' code, 1993P marks the Philadelphia date, 1 the cent and DER a design extension on the reverse; after the file, 045, comes WS for wavy steps, the kinked-stair look that trail lines give the Memorial. No obverse markers were noted on the middle-die-state coin; the reverse has a chip in the left urn post and a die dot just right of ONE's E. Like trails generally, these are most often traced to the die being polished with a rotary tool, while some attribute them to the die's movement against the hub.
