Description

TrailDies grades the wavy steps on 1993P-1DER-044WS as moderate, below the middle columns 5 to 8, with an offset of 180°, which points straight down. Its number decodes as Philadelphia 1993 and the cent (1993P-1), then DER for the reverse design extension, file 044, and WS, the wavy-step type in which trails crossing the Memorial's staircase leave its lines bent. The coin is late in the die's life. No obverse markers were seen; on the reverse a chip sits on the roof edge below the E of EPU, and a scratch runs through the U and R of PLURIBUS. Polish applied to the die with a rotary buff is the usual suspect, though a few attribute the lines to the die moving against the hub.
