1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-043WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1993P-1DER-043WS reads much like several other light 1993-P wavy-step reverses, so its markers carry the identification. Around the Y of LIBERTY the obverse has three clusters of die dots, and a heavy scratch crosses the reverse between STATES, starting at its first T, and the L of PLURIBUS. The code: 1993P, date and mint; 1, cent; DER, reverse design extension; 043, file; WS, wavy steps, trails crossing the stairs so the steps appear to undulate. The step bend is light, under columns 5 through 8 and heavier on the left, at an offset of 180°, pointing down. The coin is a middle die state. Wavy steps are generally thought to come from polishing the die with a rotary tool; some argue instead for movement of the die against the hub.
