1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-041WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

TrailDies calls 1993P-1DER-041WS an unusual wavy-step die, because its lines lean east, at 170°, a little east of due south, and because the fluting under columns 1 and 2 extends strongly into the stylobate. Moderate step deviation spans columns 4 through 8, and design elements also extend below the left urn post and the third block. Its file code joins the Philadelphia date (1993P), the cent (1), TrailDies' marker for a reverse-side design extension (DER), the file (041) and WS for the wavy-step type, named for the bent look of the stairs. This late-die-state coin has die scratches under the collar on the obverse and two gouges low on the N of CENT. Most attribute trails to polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some suspect movement of the die against the hub.
