1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-039WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1993P-1DER-039WS comes from early in its die's life (stage A), which makes its two tiny die dots useful: one below the W of WE on the obverse, the other in the stylobate under bay 10 on the reverse. The number is TrailDies' shorthand: 1993P, a Philadelphia coin of that year; 1, a cent; DER, a design extension on the reverse; 039, the file; WS, wavy steps, the name for trails that run over the Memorial's stairs and leave them looking bent. The steps bend lightly under columns 5 to 8, and on the right the fluting of columns 10, 11 and 12 pushes down into the stylobate. Direction: 190°, slightly west of due south. These lines are generally credited to a rotary polishing tool working the die, though some prefer the explanation that the die moved against the hub.
