1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-036WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Two things show on 1993P-1DER-036WS: moderate wavy steps below columns 5 to 8, and fluting lines that extend from columns 11 and 12 into the stylobate, all at 180°, due south. TrailDies' code means 1993 Philadelphia, cent, reverse design extension (DER), file 036, wavy steps (WS). The late-die-state coin has a curved, crescent-like break low on the date's first 9. On the reverse, flow lines from die wear sit along the lower edges of CENT's E, N and T; TrailDies points out that they radiate outward instead of running parallel, which is how they differ from trails. Most observers link wavy steps to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, while some put them down to die movement against the hub.

Die Markers

• Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – odd crescent shaped die break on the lower part of the first 9 of the DATE.
• Reverse is LDS – die deterioration flow lines on the bottom of the E, N and T of CENT. Notice how these lines are radial in direction and not parallel like trail lines.
