1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-035WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

On 1993P-1DER-035WS the stairs under the middle four columns, 5 to 8, show moderate waviness, running at 180°, due south. Its number has five parts: 1993P (Philadelphia, 1993), 1 (cent), DER (design extension, reverse side), 035 (file number) and WS (wavy steps), where trails cross the steps and bend their lines. The obverse of the middle-die-state coin had no markers, but the reverse has a chip joined to a crack in column 1 and a small chip in the stairs beneath bay 7, right in the area of the wavy steps. The common explanation is die polishing with a rotary tool; others think the lines come from the die moving against the hub.
