1993 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-032WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

The stair distortion on 1993P-1DER-032WS is very strong and wide, reaching from column 5 across to column 9, with a lighter bend under the right urn post as well. Moderate fluting lines also carry from columns 11 and 12, and from the right corner, into the stylobate. All run at 200°, south-southwest. The number covers the 1993 Philadelphia date and the cent (1993P-1), the reverse design extension (DER), the file (032) and wavy steps (WS). TrailDies records two stages. In stage B the obverse, very late, shows a ring of gouge below the BE of LIBERTY. By stage C the obverse die had been replaced, and the reverse has a crack low in bays 6, 7 and 8; Billy Crawford found that stage, on a coin with serious plating problems. A rotary buff polishing the die is the usual explanation, with die movement against the hub the minority view.

Die Markers

• Stage “B”, obverse is VLDS – a ring of die gouge below the BE of LIBERTY. A small die gouge Is seen to the left of the DATE.
• Reverse is MDS – none noted.
• Stage “C”, obverse is LEDS – obverse die has been changed. Small triangular shaped die gouge is seen next to the rim.
• Reverse is LDS – a die crack is seen in the lower parts of bays 6, 7 and 8.
