1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-030WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1993D-1DER-030WS shows trails in the form of wavy steps under columns 5 through 9, set at 190°, slightly west of due south. In wavy steps the trails cross the Memorial's staircase and bend its lines. Its code is 1993 plus D for Denver, a 1 for the cent, DER for a reverse showing design extension, file 030, and WS. The entry gives no strength grade. Aisha Shahid found this die as well as 1993D-1DER-029WS, which has the same columns and direction; the markers separate them. Here, on a middle-die-state coin, three small gouges lie below LIBERTY and a small gouge sits left of column 1 on the reverse. The usual explanation for trails is a rotary tool polishing the die; others suggest the die moved against the hub.
