1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-029WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1993D-1DER-029WS has strong wavy steps under columns 5 through 9, plus distortion of the stylobate's levels below columns 11 and 12. Wavy steps are trails running over the Memorial's stairs that leave them looking bent. The direction is 190°, a little west of south. In the code, 1993D is the Denver year, 1 means a cent, DER is the extension-on-the-reverse code, 029 the file and WS the type. A small gouge just above and left of the second 9 in the date marks the obverse of TrailDies' middle-die-state coin; on the reverse, two horizontal scratches lie between the designer's initials and the rim. Aisha Shahid found the die. Trails are usually ascribed to the die being polished with a rotary buff; some ascribe them to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen just to the upper left of the 2nd nine digit in the date.
• Reverse is MDS – two horizontal die scratches are seen in between the designer’s initials and the rim.
