1993D-1DER-029WS Trail Die Reverse
Error
Description
Aisha Shahid's first of two contributions to the census places a die gouge just to the upper left of the second nine in the date — "1993" — using the date numerals as the reference grid. The second 9 is the third digit from the left, and specifying "upper left" pins the gouge to a position roughly at the 10 o'clock angle from that numeral. On the reverse, two horizontal die scratches sit between Frank Gasparro's designer initials (FG) and the rim, using the same initials that anchored the 018WS attribution but in a different positional relationship: where the 018WS had a scratch to the right of and below the initials, the 029WS places its scratches between the initials and the rim, a distinction that confirms these are separate die pairs despite referencing the same landmark. The horizontal orientation of the reverse scratches distinguishes them from the vertical scratching patterns seen on the 024WS, suggesting a different polishing direction was used on this die. The trail die effect carries the WS suffix, indicating both fluting and step deviation. Cataloged at Stage B mid-die-state. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
