1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-027WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Tom Steinbaugh of Vancouver, Washington, found 1993D-1DER-027WS. TrailDies' number marks a 1993 Denver cent (1993D, 1) whose reverse has a design extension (DER), file 027, of the wavy-step type (WS), where trails cross the Memorial's stairs and give them a bent look. The stairs here bend moderately under columns 5 through 8, and fluting from columns 2 and 3 runs moderately into the stylobate, all at 190°, just west of south. The coin is in a middle die state, identified by short scratches behind Lincoln's neck and a small gouge, almost a dot, beneath the Memorial's base. Trails are usually attributed to rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
