1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-019WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

TrailDies lists 1993D-1DER-019WS with only light wavy steps, spread across columns 5 to 8 and running at 180°, due south. The prefix 1993D gives the year and Denver mint; 1 stands for one cent, the R in DER says the design extension is on the reverse, 019 is the file and the closing WS names the type, in which trails crossing the Memorial's stairs leave them looking crinkled. Since the steps are faint, the late-die-state markers matter: a crack leaves the foot of the T in CENT for the rim, a gouge sits just right of that T, and another lies between the R and I of AMERICA. Jimmy Ehrhart found the die. The standard account puts trails down to die polishing with a rotating buff, while a minority attributes them to die-to-hub movement.
