1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-018WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

For 1993D-1DER-018WS, read 1993 Denver, cent, DER (TrailDies' reverse design extension), file 018 and WS for wavy steps. The left side carries the heavier work: strong to moderate fluting lines push from columns 2 and 3 down through the stylobate. Under columns 5 to 8 the stairs bend moderately, the familiar wavy-step look where trail lines cross the steps. All of it heads 190°, a few degrees west of south. The coin is a late-middle die state, with a die scratch inside the O of ONE and another to the lower right of the designer's initials. C. L. Long of North Carolina found the die. Most attribute trails to polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some suspect movement of the die against the hub.
