1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-017WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Moderate wavy steps across the four middle columns, heaviest at the left, mark 1993D-1DER-017WS; the stair lines below the central bays bow as trail lines pass across them. The code combines the Denver 1993 date, the denomination digit, DER (reverse, design extension), file 017 and WS. The offset runs straight down, 180°. TrailDies' coin is a late die state, and the reverse is busy with damage: several cracks and chips across columns 4 and 5, a two-level crack with a chip that joins the period after UNUM to the roof, and a large chip in the cornice below the M of UNUM. Jeremy Gardner of Kentucky reported the die. Rotary polishing of the die is the explanation most often given for trails; a smaller camp ties them to the die moving on the hub.
