1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-016T Trail Die Reverse

Description

1993D-1DER-016T spreads its trails across much of the reverse, all at 030°, north-northeast, toward the top of the coin and a little right. Decoded, the number reads: 1993, Denver, one cent, reverse design extension (DER), file 016, T for trails. Light to moderate lines rise from the tops of the EPU letters; the TES of STATES is distorted; MER in AMERICA and CE in CENT carry trails, as do the top of the cornice and the tops of the right-hand columns. On the middle-die-state reverse a small gouge sits between the M and E of AMERICA, and another fills the upper triangle of the N in ONE. Jeremy Gardner of Kentucky found it. These lines are generally credited to a rotary polishing tool working the die, though some prefer the explanation that the die moved against the hub.
