1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-015T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Unlike the wavy-step files around it, 1993D-1DER-015T is a plain trail die: the T at the end of the code stands for trails, after the 1993D date and mint, the cent's 1, and DER, TrailDies' label for a reverse design extension, plus file number 015. The trails are light and come off PLURIBUS and UNUM, heading 040°, to the northeast, up toward the upper right of the coin. Faint lines also mark the upper ends of columns 5 and 6, and the cornice. TrailDies grades it stage C; on the reverse a scratch runs through the lower part of bay 9, lighter horizontal scratches cross bays 10 and 11, and an old scrape passes through the T of CENT. Polishing the die with a rotary tool is the generally accepted cause, with die-against-hub movement offered by some as an alternative.
