Description

Bob Piazza of Florida discovered the 012WS, contributing to a census that drew submissions from hobbyists across the country. Piazza's find shows moderate fluting into the stylobate under column 11 — another right-side occurrence — paired with light step deviation under columns 6, 7, and 8 at a 180-degree offset. Right-side fluting with central step deviation creates an asymmetric profile: waviness appears on the eastern end of the building while stairway displacement sits under the center, suggesting the die's lateral movement affected different zones differently during successive strikes. What sets this entry apart is the complete absence of notable die markers on either surface. A clean die pair forces attribution to depend entirely on the trail die characteristics — fluting location, step deviation range, and offset angle — rather than on incidental gouges, chips, or scratches. Without secondary markers to confirm a match, the trail die signature alone must be distinctive enough to separate this variety from the other twenty-nine. Cataloged at Stage B mid-die-state. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
