1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-010WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

The stairs of 1993D-1DER-010WS bend strongly under columns 5 to 8 and lightly under the left post, and column 3's fluting extends lightly into the stylobate. The offset is 190°, slightly west of south. Read the code as 1993 with D for Denver, the 1 for a cent, DER as TrailDies' label for the reverse design extension, 010 as the file, and WS for wavy steps, its term for trails across the Memorial's staircase that make the stairs ripple. The middle-die-state coin is unmarked on the obverse, but the reverse has a die dent against column 1's left edge and a die break is forming in column 4. Trails are usually explained by rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
