Description

1993D-1DER-009WS is a 1993 Denver cent reverse (1993D for date and mint, 1 for the denomination, DER for an extension in the reverse design), file 009, with WS for wavy steps. Those are trails crossing the Memorial's staircase, which make the steps look bent; here the bend is moderate and lies under columns 5 through 8, offset at 180°, straight down. No fluting extension is mentioned, so the markers carry the identification. The middle-die-state coin shows nothing on the obverse, but its reverse has an old scrape linking UNITED's T with the motto's E and a scratch at the foot of bay 2. Most attribute trails to rotary polishing of the die; a minority credits die-to-hub movement.
