Description

Very strong wavy steps mark 1993D-1DER-007WS: the stairs bend under six columns, 4 through 9, and lightly under the right post as well. Fluting from columns 3, 10, 11 and 12 extends moderately to strongly into the stylobate. TrailDies heads the entry 180°, due south. Its code means a 1993 Denver cent (1993D, 1), a design extension on the reverse (DER), file 007, and WS for wavy steps, trails that cross the staircase and bend its lines. The late-die-state coin has a gouge on Lincoln's forehead and another right of the 3 in the date, close to the rim; on the reverse a scratch sits inside the O of ONE. Specialists usually trace trails to polishing of the die with a rotary buff; some point to the die moving against the hub.
