1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-006WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1993D-1DER-006WS shows light wavy steps under columns 5, 6 and 7, the entry headed 180°, due south. In wavy steps, trails cross the Memorial's stairs and the stair edges come out bent. TrailDies' code names the date and mint (1993D), the cent (1), a reverse design extension (DER), file 006 and the WS type. Since the reverse of the late-die-state coin shows nothing to note, the obverse markers do the identifying: two small gouges above the button hole of Lincoln's coat and another behind his head. Trails like these are most often attributed to rotary polishing of the die, though a minority looks to the die moving against the hub.
