Description

TrailDies prints 1993D-1DER-005 with no type suffix, even though what it describes is a light wave in the stairs under columns 6 and 7, the effect it normally files as WS. The number otherwise gives the 1993 Denver date, 1 for the cent, a reverse design extension (DER) and file 005. Wavy steps of this kind come from trails crossing the Memorial's staircase. The entry is headed 180°, due south. On the middle-die-state coin, the obverse has a small gouge on Lincoln's shoulder and another below the lapel; the reverse has a chip high on column 2 and three gouges below the U of UNITED. Trails are generally blamed on polishing the die with a rotary buff, while some attribute them to movement of the die against the hub.
