1993 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-004WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1993D-1DER-004WS has its trails set at 200°, south-southwest. The fluting of columns 2 and 3 extends moderately into the stylobate, and the stairs under columns 5, 6 and 7 bend lightly to moderately. TrailDies' WS suffix names that stair effect, wavy steps, in which trails crossing the staircase leave it rippled; the other parts are 1993D (Denver, 1993), 1 (cent), DER (reverse design extension) and 004 (file). The coin described is a late die state with nothing to note on the obverse. On the reverse, a large crack runs in column 9 and two chips sit close together in column 10. The cause usually cited is rotary polishing of the die; some attribute the effect to the die moving against the hub.
