Description
Die chips clustered around the Memorial's upper architecture distinguish the 002WS: a chip in the lower part of column 3, another in the cornice above column 4, and a die scratch along the upper roof edge below the S of PLURIBUS. These defects accumulate as metal fatigues under repeated strikes, and their locations serve as fingerprints locking an individual coin to this die pair. The trail die effect presents as moderate fluting into the stylobate under columns 2 and 3, accompanied by strong step deviation under columns 5 through 8 at a 190-degree offset. Where the 001WS showed only light step deviation, this die produced strong displacement — the stepped base exhibits a clearly visible lateral shift under low magnification. The ten-degree difference from 001WS (190 versus 180 degrees) confirms a separate die pair, since offset angle reflects the specific geometry of each die's seating instability. Cataloged at Stage B mid-die-state, the obverse shows no notable markers. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
