Description

1993D-1DER-001WS is a 1993 Denver cent reverse with wavy steps, file 001 in TrailDies' list; DER is its tag for a reverse design extension and 1 the denomination. Wavy steps are trails that pass across the stairs of the Memorial and give them a bent look. Here that bend is light, beneath columns 5 through 8, while the fluting of columns 2 and 3 extends moderately into the stylobate; the direction is 180°, due south. TrailDies describes a middle-die-state coin with no obverse markers. Its reverse has a small gouge low in bay 8 and another between the R and I of PLURIBUS. The usual account is that trails come from polishing of the die with a rotary buff; some favour die-to-hub movement.
