1992 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-003WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

On 1992P-1DER-003WS the stairs bend lightly beneath columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, mostly on their left side, with the offset at 180°, straight down the coin. Bent stairs of this kind are what TrailDies' WS suffix, wavy steps, records: trails that cross the staircase. Before the suffix come 1992P (date and Philadelphia mint), 1 (one cent), DER (design extension, reverse side) and 003 (file). TrailDies gives the obverse as very late with nothing to note, and the reverse as middle state, with a die dot atop UNITED's D and another at the lower left of column 1. Patrick Gaughan of Pennsylvania found the die. Trails are usually traced to rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
