1992P-1DER-002WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Found by Joshua Haynes of Alabama, 1992P-1DER-002WS displays light, sharp step deviation beneath columns five, six, seven, and eight on the reverse of a 1992 Philadelphia Lincoln cent, oriented at a 190-degree offset. The "light, sharp" characterization is diagnostic — it indicates that while the magnitude of displacement is small, the boundary between the deviated and undeviated portions of the stylobate is crisp rather than gradual, suggesting the secondary hub contact was brief but precise. Documented at Stage B in a Mid Die State (MDS), the obverse carries a die scrape through the lower part of the G in GOD, while the reverse shows a die dot to the right of the T in CENT. The 190-degree offset places the displacement vector just west of due south, a near-polar orientation that is among the most commonly observed in trail die reverses of the Lincoln Memorial series. Joshua Haynes's discovery added a second confirmed trail die to the 1992-P census, broadening the evidence that Philadelphia's cent production that year generated multiple dies with measurable displacement anomalies. For attribution purposes, the G-of-GOD die scrape on the obverse provides a quick visual check before examining the subtler trail die features on the reverse. Struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
