Description

1992P-1DER-001WS is file 001 in TrailDies' wavy-step reverses for 1992 Philadelphia cents. The prefix 1992P is date and mint, 1 the cent and DER a reverse design extension; WS marks wavy steps, which form when trails cross the Memorial's stairs and make them look bent. On this die the bending is moderate and lies beneath columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, heavier on the left, at 180° (due south) as TrailDies heads the entry. The late-die-state coin has a clean obverse, and its reverse carries a gouge above the R in AMERICA, and two small clusters of die dots lie to the right of column 12. Polishing of the die with a rotary buff is the standard explanation for trails, with die-to-hub movement as the alternative some favour.
