Description
1991P-50DEO-001T is a 1991 Philadelphia Kennedy half dollar obverse with a single faint trail from the Y of LIBERTY, running at 010°, a little east of north. In TrailDies' code that is date and mint (1991P), denomination (50), obverse design extension (DEO), and the file with its trail letter (001T). The coin TrailDies photographed is from very late in the die's life and has been cleaned, which may have removed other lines; it hopes an earlier-state piece will show more. The reverse has a gouge under the last A of AMERICA. Mary Fantauzzo of New York found the die. Trails are usually explained as damage from rotary polishing of the die; a minority view attributes them to the die moving against the hub.
