1990 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-007WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Steven Bingham of Missouri found 1990P-1DER-007WS, a wavy-step reverse on a 1990 Philadelphia cent. The code runs date and mint (1990P), denomination (1, the cent), side and feature (DER: the extension is on the reverse), file 007, then WS. Wavy steps are trails laid across the Memorial's stairs, so the stair lines look warped. On this die the warping is moderate and spans columns 5 through 8, and column 3 sends a light extension of its fluting into the stylobate. TrailDies heads the entry 180°, due south. Its middle-die-state coin has a plain obverse, while a small die dot touches the N of ONE on its left side. Rotary polishing of the die is the cause most often cited for trails, with movement of the die against the hub the minority view.
