1990 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-006T Trail Die Reverse

Description

1990P-1DER-006T belongs to a 1990 cent from Philadelphia (1990P, 1), with DER showing the reverse is the side with a design extension, 006 the file and T the trails. Its lines come off the lower left corners of the stroke ends in the N and T of CENT, with fainter ones on the designer's initials, FG, and a trail that crosses over the bottom of the E in CENT. They point at 160°, south-southeast, down and slightly to the right. TrailDies records no die markers for this pair, so the pattern of lines around CENT is the main guide. Bill Slaughter of Arkansas found it. Polishing of the die with a rotary tool is the usual explanation for trails; some instead link them to the die moving against the hub.
