Description

1990P-1DER-004T is a 1990 Philadelphia cent with trails (T) on the reverse; DER is TrailDies' tag for a reverse design extension, 1 the denomination, 004 the file. Light lines leave the motto's letters (E PLURIBUS UNUM) at their upper left corners and the upper left of columns 2 through 8, heading north-northwest at 330°. TrailDies notes that the coin pairs a late-state obverse, marked by heavy slanting scratches across LIBERTY, with an early-state reverse, because the reverse die had been replaced; a small scratch just left of UNITED's U marks that reverse. Trails are commonly put down to polishing of the die with a rotary tool; a minority attributes them to the die moving against the hub.
