Description
1990P-1DEO-001T marks a 1990 Philadelphia Lincoln cent whose obverse carries trails. The 1990P is date and mint, the 1 stands for one cent, DEO is TrailDies' design extension obverse, 001 its file number, and T marks trails. Light lines hang from the lower edges of L, I, B and E in LIBERTY and from the bases of both 9s in the date, pointing at 210°, south-southwest, down and slightly left. The coin TrailDies describes is in a middle die state. Its obverse shows no markers, so the reverse does the identifying work: a pair of small gouges sits just left of the first S in STATES, and heavy scratches run between NITED and the left side of the Memorial. Aisha Shahid found the die. Trails are usually attributed to rotary polishing of the die; a minority view links them to the die moving against the hub.

- Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – none noted
- Reverse is MDS – two small die gouges are seen just to the left of the first S in STATES. Strong die scratches are seen between the NITED of UNITED and the left side of the Memorial building.
