1989 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-008WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

On 1989P-1DER-008WS the stairs bend moderately under columns 5 through 8, more strongly on the left, and fluting from columns 2 and 3 extends moderately into the stylobate. The heading gives 180°, due south. TrailDies' number: 1989P (Philadelphia date), 1 (cent), DER (reverse design extension), 008 (file), WS (wavy steps, where trail lines pass over the stairs and appear to bend them). The coin it describes is late in the die's life; the obverse has no markers, while the reverse has a chip at the left end of the roof and a gouge in the stylobate under column 1. Trails are mainly attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
